ANN SWINGLER
Artist Statement
Ann Swingler is currently living and working in Austin. She was raised in a small ranching community on the plains of North Texas. Life there was closely intertwined with animals, ranching, gardening, cooking, weather, church, life and death, a beautiful simplicity which deeply stirred her observations. As she has immersed herself in art, she realized, these observations from childhood, as well as a practice of quiet prayer, are key in the way she experiences the world.
Creating art is her way of connecting the seen and the unseen. Inspired by nature’s cycles of birth, disintegration, and death, she finds beauty and courage. Between childhood and present, she has studied both art and architecture, and worked primarily as a graphic artist, while being mom to two boys. She also enjoys learning and gathering people at her studio in Cypress Mill to walk, learn, cook and create.
